Dr. Sharon Bolin

Dr. Sharon Bolin was born in Pontiac, Michigan on December 16, 1936.  She graduated from West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing (WSHSN) in 1957, received her Bachelor of Science from Wheaton College in 1959 and her Master of Science in Nursing from DePaul University, Chicago in 1963. In 1986, she received her Doctorate in Education from Loyola University Chicago.

Upon graduation from Wheaton College, she began her teaching career at the WSHSN. She taught Freshman Nursing and Medical-Surgical Nursing, always displaying a strong knowledge base and professional demeanor.  Her students remember her as the perfect and beloved role model.  In 1969, Dr. Bolin became the WSHSN Director and, in 1984, the founding Dean of the West Suburban College of Nursing.  She completed her academic career as the Dean of Concordia College in 1989.

Dr. Bolin served as a member of the American Institute of Parliamentarians, the National League for Nursing, and the American Nurses Association, was Vice President of the Illinois League of Nursing, served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Christian Nurse Educators, and approved continuing education programs for the Illinois Nurses Association.  Dr. Bolin was also a Director of the Evangelical Child and Family Agency and served on the Journal of Christian Nursing Editorial Board.  She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, The Honor Society of Nursing and has a student nursing scholarship established in her honor at Oak Point University, Illinois.

Upon retiring from academia, Dr. Bolin moved to St. Simons Island in Georgia where she began working with MAP International in their Educational Services Department. MAP is an organization that provides medicines and health supplies to those in need around the world.  Soon, Dr. Bolin rose to Director of MAP Educational Services.  Following her work with MAP, she became the founding Executive Director of Doctors on Call for Service (DOCS) and then moved on to conducting health assessments for people who have applied for, or who are currently receiving, long term care insurance.

Dr. Bolin officially retired in 2018.  Today, she remains busy with an alterations/quilting/monogramming business, her church activities, and two “fur kids”, Maggie and Muffin.
