Part of Usborne’s Famous Lives series, this colourful and informative book is aimed at the 7-11 age group. It is a Young Reading Series 3 book for fully confident readers. Broken into seven chapters, we find out all about a defiant daughter, battles with her family, her time in Crimea and her campaigning and literary life upon her return. The final page gives an easy-to-follow timeline of her life.
This book can be read as a stand-alone text, but the opening page gives information about internet links which complement the book. The Usborne Quicklinks section sets out many fun and interesting websites which offer videos, activity sheets and crafts that are all linked to Florence Nightingale. Visual and audio offerings combine in an easily accessible desktop allowing children to find many differing resources, there is even a Help With Homework section. Really well put together with an illustration on nearly every page, this is a lovely book, and great value.
