Wheelchair Access

The Florence Nightingale Museum is all on ground floor level and is fully wheelchair accessible.

The museum is based at St Thomas’ Hospital at car park level, down a slightly sloping pavement. The entrance is from Lambeth Palace Road and you do not need to enter any hospital buildings to reach the museum.

Unfortunately the museum does not currently have any wheelchairs available to borrow.

Car Parking

The museum does not have its own car park or designated drop off point.

The nearest drop off point is St Thomas’ Hospital, this is just across the car park entrance from the museum, it is connected with two small zebra crossings.

Tickets

D/deaf and disabled visitors can book a concessionary rate ticket, this also includes free entry for an essential carer.

All full priced tickets, including concession tickets purchased through the museum are annual passes so you are welcome to visit as often as you like within 12 months of purchase.

Toilets

The museum has male toilets, female toilets and an accessible toilet.

Both male and female toilets include baby change tables. Free sanitary products, nappies and wipes are available.

The nearest changing places toilet is at the main entrance of St Thomas’ Hospital, there is step free access from the museum, either by external slope or lifts within the hospital building. This toilet is accessible with radar key, which can be borrowed from the security desk of the hospital if required.

Assistance Animals

Working guide and assistance animals are welcome at the museum. They should be appropriately trained, supervised and kept with you at all times, ideally on a leash. Where possible, dog owners should bring their Assistance Dogs UK (ADUK) identification book and animals should wear the appropriate tabards or harness, but this is not a requirement for entry.

If you plan to visit with an assistance animal other than an assistance dog or would like to discuss visiting with a support animal, please get in touch.

Unfortunately, we cannot admit pets to our museum.

A water bowl is available on request.

Seating

There is permanent bench seating around the gallery and also foldable chairs you are welcome to move around with you, please ask a member of staff if you require assistance.

As the reception and shop area can get busy there is no permanent seating but staff can move chairs if needed.

Subtitles

All video content in the gallery is subtitled.

All audio content on the audio trail is transcribed and transcriptions can be borrowed from the museum entrance during your visit.

Noise Levels

The location of the museum can lead to external noise from the building above and car park outside.

The gallery contains ambient sounds throughout, these are the bird calls, dinner party chatter, scurrying rats and a grandfather clock. Some video content starts automatically but is kept to a lower sound level.

Ear defenders are available at the front desk to borrow for the duration of your visit.

The museum is busiest during school term times Tuesday- Friday 10:00 – 14:00 as we host primary school trips during this time. If you would benefit from a quieter visit we recommend visiting outside of these times and sending an email prior to you visit where we can send an up to date recommendation based on current bookings.
