‘A Life of Silent Misery’? Florence Nightingale at Embley Park

Florence’s desire to escape the life society intended for her is well known. But did she really hate the family’s idyllic Hampshire home so much as her damning verdict asserts? The truth, it will be proposed, is more nuanced and will be uncovered in this talk by Russ Foster.

Dr Russ Foster worked at Embley Park for 20 years and has recently written the first full-life biography of Sidney Herbert. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

The talk is included in museum entry price and is suitable for all visitors 16+.
