Emma Norton

Emma Norton qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1992 at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, West Glamorgan, Wales. In 2023, she had the honour of being awarded the Metro South Health (Brisbane, Australia) Nurse of the year award 2023. She has been working in Addiction Medicine for the last 25 years and is  currently working as a Team Leader/Nurse Unit Manager with the MSAMHS, Addiction Services at Logan Central. Winning Nurse of the year award was an extraordinary honour for Emma that signifies not just excellence in nursing for herself, but for all the work that nurses do every day. 

She would like to acknowledge the work done within MSAMHS, but particularly within Addiction Services which demonstrates a deep commitment to core care values: Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. This recognition represents a culmination of dedication, compassion, and adherence to the principles that guide the healthcare mission.

Emma consistently demonstrates the highest level of integrity by being honest, ethical, and transparent in all of her actions and is a role model for ethical nursing practice. Compassion is at the heart of nursing, and winning Nurse of the Year represents this. Demonstrating empathy creates a recovery atmosphere where clients and colleagues feel understood, valued, and supported. Accountability is a defining characteristic, with taking responsibility for our actions, constantly seeking improvement, and embracing each experience as an opportunity to learn and grow. Respect is a foundation, with winning the Nurse of the Year treating everyone with dignity, celebrating diversity, and championing inclusivity within Metro South Health. Excellence is the ultimate goal, as Emma consistently delivers a high standard of care by using evidence based practice, and upholds a standard of professionalism second to none.

Winning Nurse of the Year isn’t just an award; it’s a reflection of a nurse’s embodiment of care values, a testament to her exceptional dedication to healthcare, and a well-deserved acknowledgment of our indispensable role in our Metro South Health community and with other nurses across the globe.
