Jane Elizabeth Brookes

Jane Elizabeth Brookes was born in Wakefield Yorkshire, in 1961 and lived In Doncaster with her Mum Jean, and Dad John, both School Teachers, and her brother Andrew and sister Catherine. Her Grandma, Doris Newton, had become a Midwife in the 1920’s.

Leaving Doncaster Grammar school in 1979 at the age of 18 with 3 A levels, and already a Queens Guide, Jane travelled to London to train as a State Registered Nurse at King College Hospital.

Learning on the job with work experience at various hospitals around London, travelling by bus, train, tube, bicycle and later on her Honda 70 motorbike, Jane found her vocation as a caring professional and, after a setback with Rheumatic Fever, fighter Jane achieved her goal being registered as a General Nurse in November 1983.

Pursuing her dream, Jane attended University King’s College (Chelsea), still nursing night shifts, and graduated with a 2.1 Bsc degree in Human Biology in 1986 followed in 1987 with a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Education from the Polytechnic of South Bank.

Now married to Simon, Jane (Knight) accepted the post of Health Education Officer, with City and Hackney Health Authority based at St Leonards, commuting by bicycle, where she continued to work until starting a family in 1988.

Juggling work and 4 proud children, Hannah, Sam, Tom and Kate, Jane carried on learning and giving to the community, passing exams in Asthma care and supporting GP’s in Kent. After the family moved to Cheshire in 1992 Jane went on to build a successful career with Warrington PCT and Council and over the next three decades worked a further 19 years in Public Health.

Not one for sitting still, Jane qualified as a Yoga teacher in 2018 and even now with three Grandsons, Merlin, Inver and Ediz, continues to selflessly give and care for the wellbeing of others.
