Description
The book opens with a brief chronology of Florence Nightingale’s life and then continues to two distinct sections.

Made up of seven chapters that cover such topics as Faith in a Secular World, The Crimea, Founding a New Profession, |Safer Hospitals and Army Reform and later wars.
What was her impact on the world at the time and what were the key ideas and values connected with her?
Part Two: The Legacy
This second part explores the intellectual and cultural ‘afterlife’ of Florence Nightingale and considers the ways in which her impact has lasted and been developed in different contexts by later generations. Five chapters cover areas such as the NHS; Mainstream social and political reform; and Research, policy and legacy.
Why is she still considered important today? In what ways is her legacy contested or resisted? And what aspects of her legacy are likely to continue to influence the world in the future?
The book ends with a helpful notes section, along with suggestions for further reading.
This is a small but important book. As Mark Bostridge, author of Florence Nightingale: The Woman and her Legend states, it is, an authoritative, pithy and concise argument for Florence Nightingale as not only one of the geniuses of the Victorian age, but also a thinker whose work has much relevance today.
