Description
The magnet features Florence walking the wards of Scutari Barracks. The illustration used, Florence Nightingale in the Military Hospital at Scutari, comes from a coloured lithograph by J.A. Benwell, and dates to 1855. Interestingly for such a famous image, the lamp is not actually correct! She would have used a Turkish lamp known as a Fanoos. The artist also produced the coloured lithograph Battle of Alma, depicting the aftermath, though he is probably best known for illustrating religious publications.
