Scutari Ward Scene Ornament

£9.95

This metal ornament features the iconic image of Florence Nightingale and her lamp on a ward at Scutari Hospital, with gold coloured edging and ribbon.

Description

This metal ornament features Florence walking the wards of Scutari Barracks and is a perfect memento or gift. The illustration used, Florence Nightingale in the Military Hospital at Scutari, comes from a coloured lithograph by J.A. Benwell, and dates to 1855. Interestingly, and for such a famous image, the lamp is not actually correct! She would have used a Turkish lamp known as a fanoos. The artist also produced the coloured lithograph Battle of Alma, depicting the aftermath, though he is probably best known for illustrating religious publications.

Exclusive to the Florence Nightingale Museum and created by Tinker Tailor London, specialists in luxurious fabric embroidered decorations, stickers and printed vintage style metal ornaments.
